Most people know they are in an unstable work environment before they are released. I noticed that every year two weeks before Christmas they would walk people out the door. Some of my friends have said that there were rumors first, then they the saw people being released.
I believe that if you have a relationship with God, He will allow you to recognize the warning signs. When you know something is coming, it is not the time to start frantically praying “Don’t let it come to me!” Sometimes this works. I believe that prayer works. But, it is wise to take action while you pray. (Remember the article on defense?)
Ask God for wisdom and how to prepare for your future. He will give you a plan for your situation. Ask God to show you ways to make the transition easier. Pray for wisdom, discernment, and favor for the change that is coming to your life. Don’t just live for today, make decisions now that will impact your future.
I started making adjustments and looking for ways to streamline how I spent money when I saw the signs of a release:
-I signed up for the account protector program for the credit card where I carried a balance and I paid off all the credit cards that had smaller balances.
-I found a local Angel Food ministry (http://www.angelfoodministries.com) and started participating on a monthly basis.
-I found ways to barter with my friends and family of some of the things that I normally bought with money. For instance, I was a baby sitter in exchange for a wash/set from a friend.
God will give you a vision for your future and show you ways you can prepare. Just watch, pray and listen to Him. "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread." Psalm 37:25. (NIV)
